Supreme Most Colorful: First and Second place winners from, Non-Pro Most Colorful at Halter, Youth Most Colorful at Halter and Most Colorful at Halter classes

Highest Placing ApHC Horse Over-All: Horse with overall highest placings when all ApHC classes are added

Highest Placing Youth Rider: Youth rider with highest placings when all youth classes are added

Youth exhibitors 18 years of age AND younger are required to wear ASTM/SEI approved helmet with safety harness attached and fastened

• New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law: No person less than EIGHTEEN years of age shall ride a horse unless such person is wearing a helmet meeting or exceeding ASTM F1163 (Safety Equipment Institute certified) Equestrian Standard.

Once a walk-trot exhibitor 10 & Under, 11-18, or Non Pro shows in a three-gaited class at an ApHC- sponsored event and/or an ApHC-approved show during the calendar year they may not show in a walk- trot 10 & Under, 11-18 or Non Pro class or sweepstakes class, for the remainder of that calendar year.

A walk-trot exhibitor 10 & Under, 11-18, Non Pro or All Breed walk-trot exhibitor will not be allowed to show in a walk-trot class and a three-gaited class at the same show. An exhibitor who shows walk-trot cannot enter in a three gaited Sweepstakes class. An exhibitor who shows at three gates cannot enter a walk-trot sweepstakes class.

Exhibitor may add or drop classes during the show. Exhibitors will be charged for full price of the class after that class is drawn (2 classes before). Example: Exhibitor wishes to scratch out of class 150. When class 148 enters the ring, the exhibitor will be charged full price for scratching class 150.

ApHC Division Definitions

Youth: Appaloosa Youth Association Members shall consist of individuals 18 years of age or younger as of January 1 of the current year.

Novice Youth: To be eligible to show in a novice youth class, the youth, as of January 1 of the current year, shall have earned less than a combined total of 20 points in the ApHC and/or any other breed organization

Walk/Trot Youth: Walk-trot classes for exhibitors 10 & Under, limited to exhibitors who do not participate in any ApHC-approved classes except Showmanship, Halter, Hunter in Hand

Leadline: This class is limited to exhibitors 6 years old and under who do not participate in any approved class at that show except Showmanship and Halter

Non-Pro: Exhibitors 19 & over, have not ever engaged in any activities which would make him/her a professional. A professional is an individual who:

• Accepts remuneration for riding, driving, showing in halter, training, schooling, conducting clinics or seminars, or instructing in equitation or horse training or judging.

• Performs the above listed activities for which another person in his/her family or a corporation, which a member of his/her family controls, will receive remuneration.

• Performs such activities while accepting remuneration for employment in another capacity for an employer or member of said employer’s family who owns, boards, or trains the involved horses.

• Rides, drives, or shows in halter in horse shows any horse for which he/she or a member of his/her family accepts remuneration for boarding or training.

• Accepts prize money in Equitation or Showmanship classes.

• Accepts remuneration in the form of payment of entry fees, or any expenses for the person or the horse with which the Non-Pro competes, by any person other than the non-pro or the non-pro’s spouse, child, stepchild, legal ward, father, mother, step-parent, sister, brother, grandparent, grandchild, or legal guardian.

• Holds judging credentials with any equine organization or receives remuneration for judging either in the form of a salary, perks, or as reimbursement for expenses

Novice Non-Pro: A Novice Non-pro must have a Non-pro card and meet all Non-pro requirements. To be eligible for Novice Non-pro status in any class, the applicant must have earned less than 20 points in that class in the ApHC and/or any other breed organization as of January 1 of current year.

Walk/Trot Non-Pro: Once a non-pro exhibitor shows in a three-gaited class at an ApHC sponsored event or show during the calendar year, they may not show in a non-pro walk-trot division class for the remainder of that calendar year. Otherwise, there are no restrictions on how long a nonpro exhibitor may show in walk-trot classes.

Open: Open to any eligible ApHC horse and ApHC carded member

Junior Horse Under Saddle: Only junior horses may be entered in a junior or hackamore/snaffle bit classes. Junior horses are FIVE years old and younger.

Junior Halter Horse: Horses must be 2 years old and younger to compete in junior halter

Senior Horse Under Saddle: Only senior horses may be entered in senior classes. Senior horses are SIX years old and older

Senior Halter Horse: Must be 3 years old and older to compete in senior halter classes.

Foundation Pedigree Designation (FPD): To be eligible for the FPD program, the horse must be registered with the ApHC. This option may also be done concurrently with the application for registration.

• Walk/Trot: Once an exhibitor shows in a three-gaited class event or show during the calendar year they may not show in a walk-trot division class for the remainder of that calendar year. Otherwise there are no restrictions on how long a exhibitor may show in walk-trot classes.

• All Breed Open Ranch Horse: Ranch classes open to all exhibitors; any age or skill level showing at three gaits

• All Breed Open Game Rider: Game classes open to all exhibitors; any age or skill level showing at three gaits

• Walk/Trot 11 & U: Exhibitors must be 11 years old or younger as of January 1st 

• Walk/Trot 12 & O: Exhibitors must be 12 years old or older as of January 1st

• Youth: Individuals 18 years of age or younger as of January 1 of the current year.

• Beginner: Exhibitor who is in their first or second year showing at 3 gaits

• Adult: Exhibitors 19 & Over as of January 1st

• GreenHorse: Horse's first or second year of showing

• Leadline: This class is limited to exhibitors 7 years old and under who do not participate in any class at that show except Showmanship and Halter
